An independent project to preserve and share Tamil Vedic astrology with the world.
Rasi & Rise was born from a simple frustration: the Tamil astrology tools available online were either buried behind ads, locked behind paywalls, or gave inaccurate results. Growing up Tamil, I saw my family consult panchangams for every important occasion - weddings, housewarmings, naming ceremonies, even travel plans. This knowledge has been passed down for thousands of years, and it deserves better than pop-up-laden websites and outdated apps.
So I built what I wished existed: an accurate and beautiful set of tools that anyone can use. No tracking. No ads. Just the astrology.
This is not a company. Rasi & Rise is an independent, one-person project built by someone of Tamil origin who grew up between Tamil Nadu and the diaspora. I am not a professional astrologer - I am a software engineer who cares deeply about making Tamil cultural knowledge accessible to the next generation, especially those of us who grew up outside India and might not have had easy access to a family jothidar.
Every calculation in this tool is based on real astronomical data using the sidereal zodiac. The planetary positions are computed from established ephemeris data, not looked up from pre-made tables. The marriage compatibility checks follow the traditional 10-point porutham system as practiced in Tamil Nadu.
"கற்றது கைமண் அளவு, கல்லாதது உலகளவு"
Tamil civilisation is one of the oldest continuous cultures on Earth. Tamil Jothidam - the Tamil system of Vedic astrology - is one thread in a vast tapestry that includes literature, music, architecture, medicine, and philosophy. It is a living tradition, still practiced daily by millions of people across Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, and the global Tamil diaspora.
But like many ancient knowledge systems, it risks being diluted or lost as younger generations move further from the source. The panchangam that my grandmother consulted from a printed almanac is the same system that powers this site - just translated into code.
This project is my small contribution to keeping that chain unbroken. If it helps even one person connect with their Tamil heritage, or understand why their parents check Rahu Kalam before starting something new, it will have been worth building.
Rasi & Rise is funded entirely out of pocket. If you find these tools useful and want to help keep them running, you can buy me a coffee. Every contribution goes directly toward hosting costs and continued development.
